# Capture SMTP

Capture outgoing application mail over authenticated SMTP with STARTTLS.

## Connect your application

1.  Open your project in the console and choose Capture SMTP.
2.  Issue a capture credential and save its show-once value in your application's secret environment.
3.  Copy the hostname and username displayed for your deployment. Use port 587 with STARTTLS and SMTP authentication.
4.  Send a synthetic message from your application and inspect its capture inbox.

## Check actual delivery

Confirm the expected message arrives and inspect its recipient and content. A successful connection alone does not prove delivery. Capture inboxes are separate from registered MX fixtures; choose the corresponding inbox when waiting.
